Bandai Namco Entertainment America announced the release date for Gundam Rogue Orbit, a new action game set in the popular universe. The title will launch on March 5, 2027 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC via Steam. The developers have created an entirely new timeline not directly tied to prior events in the saga. The story will focus on humanity's fight for survival in the face of a mysterious threat known as the Apocalypse. Players will take control of the Gundam Helix and its pilot, RE-X, during missions across various areas of the Solar System.
A new story and a mysterious Gundam
Gundam Rogue Orbit will present events in a completely new timeline created specifically for the game. Humanity will have to face an unknown threat that endangers its survival. The main protagonist is RE-X, an experienced pilot who controls the powerful Gundam Helix. Assisting him is Vii, a Haro unit that serves as an intelligent, multipurpose assistant built specifically for the Gundam Helix. The latest trailer shows further glimpses of the world and the story prepared by Bandai Namco Studios. One of the most mysterious elements in the footage is a black Mobile Suit with distinctive red glowing eyes. Its role in the story has not yet been explained in detail. During his journey RE-X will also meet several other important characters. Among them is Sofia, a mysterious young woman who watches the protagonist's actions. April is the captain of the Stellarvane, an independent special-purpose ship that conducts missions against Apocalypse. Another character is Big Paul, the leader of a group of desert pirates who hunt Apocalypse. His people also raid wealthy transports to pass the seized supplies on to settlers. Elaine is a commander of knights and an exceptionally talented Mobile Suit pilot who personally leads her units on the front line. The story will take players across vast areas of the Solar System.
The Mobile Suit can be customized to match your playstyle
An important element of Gundam Rogue Orbit will be an extensive system for modifying the main Mobile Suit. Players will be able to mix and match different types of weapons, frames, boosters, and Apocalypse Units, known by the abbreviation AP-U. There will also be an option to choose your own color scheme for the machine. Individual weapons will have their own actions and abilities. This will allow players to change their combat approach depending on the equipment they select. Battles will take place both on the ground and in the air. The developers promise expansive zones where players can engage in dynamic fights. The equipment system is intended to let you build a Mobile Suit around your preferred playstyle. That means weapon choice will matter not only visually but also during combat. The game is scheduled for release on March 5, 2027. Pre-orders have already started for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam. Players who pre-order the game will receive, among other things, early access to the Earth Blue color variant.
Editions and pre-order content
The Standard Edition will include the base version of Gundam Rogue Orbit. The Launch Edition will also offer a reversible cover, an 11 × 17-inch poster, and a promotional card for the Gundam Card Game. The Deluxe Edition will be expanded with a Premium Mod Skins Set and a Mobile Suit Color Pack containing 14 color variants. This version will also include a digital selection of art assets and music, as well as a Mission Reward Booster. The most comprehensive Collector's Edition will combine the Launch Edition content with all of the Deluxe Edition's digital extras. Everything will be housed in a metal case. The biggest addition will be an exclusive HG 1/144 ARK-10 GUNDAM HELIX model in Earth Blue. The collector's edition will also include a set of five promotional cards for the Gundam Card Game. Bandai Namco isn't limiting the extra content to digital items. In particular, the Gundam Helix model could appeal to collectors of physical series merchandise. All editions are now available for pre-order. Gundam Rogue Orbit will be released on March 5, 2027.
Gundam Rogue Orbit promises a major shift in the series' formula by establishing an entirely new timeline. The game will feature fast-paced combat, deep Mobile Suit customization, and a story focused on humanity's struggle against the Apocalypse. At the center are the RE-X, the Gundam Helix and its companion Haro Vii, and players will also encounter several new characters.
