GTA 6 without preorders in May? Insiders are cooling down the huge hype around the Rockstar game.

Calendar 5/18/2026

Grand Theft Auto VI has once again become the center of huge speculation. After a leaked email suggesting the start of preorders as early as May 18, players began gearing up for a big announcement from Rockstar Games. However, insiders now claim that nothing of the sort will happen for several more months.

Insiders: GTA 6 is unlikely to kick off preorders in May

Well-known industry insider Tom Henderson admitted that the leaked email related to the Best Buy network was genuine, but it doesn't necessarily mean an immediate start of preorders. According to his information, Rockstar and Take-Two Interactive are probably preparing larger marketing efforts only for July or August, likely around the time of the company’s next financial report. Henderson also suggests that promotional materials may have been prepared earlier, but plans changed or there was a mistake on the part of the marketing partners.

Rockstar may completely abandon sending review copies

Even more interesting are the new rumors regarding GTA 6 reviews. According to some insiders, Rockstar is considering completely abandoning the practice of sending review codes to the media and online creators. Instead, the company would organize special closed events during which journalists could test the game solely in controlled conditions. Such a move would reduce the risk of leaks and spoilers before the release. This would be a huge departure from previous Rockstar releases, as standard review copies were normally sent to the media for Red Dead Redemption 2.

Rockstar is increasingly safeguarding information about GTA 6

It is no secret that Rockstar is exceptionally protective of all information related to GTA 6. The game has previously been the victim of massive leaks of development materials, so the company may now be implementing much more stringent security measures. Insiders emphasize, however, that for now, most of this information remains unofficial, and Rockstar has still not confirmed details regarding preorders or the review strategy.

New information suggests that we probably won't see GTA 6 preorders until May. There are also reports that Rockstar may completely abandon sending review copies to the media before the game's release.
