Granblue Fantasy: Relink turned out to be one of 2024’s most pleasant surprises for fans of Japanese RPGs. Now the developers are preparing a major expansion that will significantly expand nearly every element of the gameplay. Endless Ragnarok will offer a new story, additional characters, fresh endgame activities, and more challenging battles. The creators make no secret of the fact that the expansion’s goal is to give veterans dozens more hours of gameplay. Importantly, interested players can already check out the free demo of the base game.
New heroes and powerful summons are changing the combat system
The expansion's biggest new feature is an expanded summon system that significantly affects how battles play out. Players will be able to call on special creatures and support characters, taking control of them during fights. The mechanic is not just for dealing damage; it also lets you survive the most dangerous enemy attacks thanks to brief invulnerability. Each summon has its own playstyle and specializes in different roles. Some focus on offense, others help control the battlefield or support the team. The expansion also introduces flashy special attacks that are triggered by specific team skill combinations. The developers have also prepared six new playable characters that series fans will recognize from earlier installments. Joining the roster are, among others, Gallanza, Beatrix, Eustace, and Fediel. Each character offers a completely different playstyle and new team-building options. The creators also added additional bosses and powerful enemies designed to challenge even the most experienced players. As a result, combat becomes more varied and requires more planning than before. All signs point to the combat system undergoing one of the biggest evolutions since the game's release. This element could be the main reason many players return to the world of Granblue Fantasy.
A new difficulty level and solo content
Endless Ragnarok is not limited to new characters and skills. The expansion also introduces the highest difficulty level, called Chaos, which was designed for the most advanced players. Even the first missions are said to offer a much greater challenge than the current endgame activities. Enemies will gain new abilities, and bosses will use special attacks capable of quickly ending a fight. Properly responding to warning cues and executing perfect dodges will be crucial. The developers hope the new difficulty will extend the game's lifespan by many months. At the same time, something has been prepared for players who prefer solo play. The new Conflux mode will let you explore successive zones and pick up random upgrades that affect the course of a given session. The feature resembles mechanics known from roguelike games, where each attempt looks a little different. Players will earn unique bonuses, overcome successive challenges, and gradually strengthen their characters. The developers emphasize that the mode was designed specifically for people who do not want to use matchmaking and prefer to play alone. Thanks to randomly generated modifiers, each playthrough should offer fresh experiences. Everything indicates that Conflux could become one of the most visited parts of the expansion for players focused on the endgame.
Granblue Fantasy: Relink Endless Ragnarok promises to be one of the biggest expansions released for the game since launch. New characters, a summon system, a Chaos difficulty level and a Conflux mode are expected to significantly extend the game's lifespan. The expansion will debut on July 9 for PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4.
