Google is expanding its smart home solutions, and the latest update shows that AI plays an increasingly important role here. Google Home is getting new features related to Gemini, which aim to simplify device control and make it more natural. The biggest change is the extension of language support, but that's just part of the new features. The update also improves the way you communicate with devices and introduces more intuitive controls. The whole thing is moving towards a home that actually “understands” what you’re saying to it.
Gemini becomes more accessible and intelligent
Google introduces Spanish language support in Gemini for Home, starting among others in Mexico and expanding access in the USA and Canada. Additionally, AI is also reaching children's accounts with parental control, which means broader use in everyday life. At the same time, the system better understands commands – there is no need to use exact names of colors or devices anymore, as Gemini can interpret more natural language, e.g., “color of the ocean” or “moonlight.”
Greater control over the smart home
The updates also include more precise control of devices, from setting temperature and humidity to specific commands for appliances like the oven. Gemini recognizes devices more quickly and better differentiates, for example, a lamp from light, which leads to more efficient operation. Additionally, there are more detailed news summaries in Live mode and enhancements to the Android app that improve the comfort of using the system.
Google is developing smart home towards more natural and intelligent control, where AI understands the user instead of requiring precise commands. This is another step towards a home that operates more "on its own" than on command.
