Sony is unlikely to offer discounts on PlayStation 5 consoles during this year's Days of Play 2026 sale. According to new leaks, the promotions will mainly cover accessories, games, and PSVR 2, but the console itself may remain at full price despite recent price increases.
PS5 May Skip Sony's Biggest Sale
According to leaker billbil-kun, this year's Days of Play will run from May 27 to June 10. The problem is that currently there is no indication of official price reductions for the PS5, PS5 Digital Edition, or PlayStation 5 Pro. This may be particularly disappointing for many gamers after the recent price hikes on consoles. The standard PS5 now costs around 650 euros, while the PS5 Pro costs as much as 900 euros.
Leaks suggest that promotions will include DualSense controllers, which are expected to be discounted by around 20 euros. The DualSense Edge and PlayStation VR2 are also expected to be cheaper, with the latter's price potentially dropping by up to 100 euros. Discounts are also expected to apply to selected games, including Ghost of Yōtei. The lack of promotions on the PS5 may be related to rising component costs, particularly RAM and NAND. According to reports, the prices of components are skyrocketing due to huge demand related to the development of artificial intelligence and AI servers. Sony may be trying to maintain high margins instead of aggressively lowering hardware prices.
Pressure to Buy PS5 Is Growing
The situation is problematic in that more and more major releases are canceling support for PS4. The new Call of Duty is already set to skip the older generation of consoles, which for many gamers means they will have to transition to PS5 sooner than planned.
Days of Play 2026 will likely not bring promotions on PS5. Sony is expected to focus primarily on discounts for accessories, PSVR 2, and select games, despite the growing pressure to purchase the new generation of consoles.
