OLED monitors are increasingly boldly conquering the gaming market, however, until now, most models have been aimed at users looking for large screens and high resolutions. ASUS decided to take a completely different direction. At the Computex 2026 fair, the company presented the first 25-inch OLED monitor created specifically for fans of online competition. The manufacturer focused primarily on extremely high refresh rates and lightning-fast response times. As a result, the new model is set to compete with TN monitors that have dominated the professional e-sports scene for years.
ASUS prioritizes speed over high resolution
The new ROG Strix XG259QWPG Ace is equipped with a 24.5-inch Tandem WOLED panel. However, the most attention-grabbing feature is its refresh rate of up to 540 Hz. This level seemed unrealistic just a few years ago, even for monitors designed for professional gamers. ASUS has paired it with a response time of 0.02 ms, which is one of the greatest advantages of OLED technology. The manufacturer emphasizes that the monitor was developed in collaboration with the organizers of the largest e-sports tournaments, including Blast and PGL. The hardware aims to ensure maximum smoothness during gameplay in dynamic online games. However, the screen offers a resolution of only 1920 × 1080 pixels. For some users, this may be disappointing, especially in times of the popularization of 1440p and 4K monitors. However, ASUS believes that in e-sports, speed and minimizing latency count the most. That is why the company decided on a compromise between image quality and performance. Competitive gamers are likely to accept such a limitation if they receive maximally smooth gameplay in return. Especially since the monitor is expected to provide significantly better image quality than the TN panels currently used by many players.
Tandem WOLED is set to improve brightness and lifespan
The new ASUS monitor utilizes the latest generation of Tandem WOLED panels. According to the manufacturer, the technology provides about 15 percent higher peak brightness compared to previous designs. The company also boasts a 25 percent increase in color volume, which should translate to a more saturated image. An equally important aspect is the extension of the lifespan of the matrix. ASUS claims that the implemented solutions allow for an increase in the panel's durability by up to 60 percent compared to previous generations of OLED. The device also uses a new power supply system based on GaNFET technology. This has succeeded in reducing the amount of heat generated and lowering the monitor's operating temperature. The manufacturer reports a reduction in temperature at the hottest points of the construction by as much as 35 percent. This is expected to positively impact not only the panel's durability but also the stability of operation during long gaming sessions. ASUS has not yet revealed the price of the new model, which may be crucial for its success. If the manufacturer prices the device appropriately, the monitor has a chance of becoming a very popular choice among e-sports players. Especially since there are currently virtually no direct competitors offering similar specifications in such a compact format.
