Apple has released the tvOS 27.2 update, which introduces several new features for the Apple TV 4K. Users can now use random screensavers, more easily locate the remote, and access additional accessibility options. The new software also prepares support for wireless surround sound with four HomePods.
New screensavers and locating the remote
One of the most important changes is the ability to automatically switch between different categories of screensavers. Apple TV can now randomly display landscapes, photos, and Snoopy animations, among others. Users can also choose specific photos from their iPhone without sharing their entire library.
The update also adds support for American and British Sign Language (ASL and BSL) on selected content in the Apple TV app, and new accessibility features in FaceTime. Owners of the second-generation Siri Remote and later can locate the remote using the Find My app on their iPhone.
Four HomePods as a home theater
The most interesting new feature for home theater fans is support for a wireless surround setup made up of four HomePods. The speakers can operate in a two-front, two-rear configuration, delivering surround sound, including Dolby Atmos.
The feature will, however, be available only on the fourth-generation Apple TV 4K, which goes on sale November 13. It also requires appropriately paired second-generation HomePods or second-generation HomePod minis.
tvOS 27.2 is already available to download on second-generation and later Apple TV 4K models. Older devices receive a separate tvOS 26.6.1 update.
