Apple TV 4K is getting significantly more expensive. It's the largest price increase across Apple's entire product lineup.

Apple has launched another wave of price increases for its devices, and this time people planning to buy the Apple TV 4K will feel it most. Although the company also raised prices on Mac computers, iPads and HomePod speakers, it was the TV set-top box that saw the largest percentage increase across the entire portfolio. Apple cites a sharp rise in the cost of RAM and SSDs, which are currently among the most sought-after components in the world. It's all because of massive investments in AI development and the construction of new data centers. For customers, however, it means one thing: Apple hardware is becoming noticeably more expensive.

Apple TV 4K prices rise by up to 55 percent. Apple points to a components crisis

Apple confirmed that the increases affect many device categories, but the biggest changes concern Apple TV 4K. The model with 64 GB of storage now costs $199, whereas its price was previously $129. An even larger increase hit the 128 GB version, which went up from $149 to $249. That represents a rise of up to 55 percent, the highest figure among all products covered by the new pricing. Apple says the decision is not motivated by a desire to raise margins, but by an unprecedented increase in component costs. According to the company, the consumer electronics market is currently under enormous pressure due to the rapid expansion of artificial intelligence infrastructure. The construction of new data centers has led manufacturers to buy RAM and SSDs en masse, driving record price increases for those components. Apple emphasizes that for a long time it absorbed the additional production costs itself, but continuing to keep previous prices became impossible. As a result, customers will pay significantly more for devices that until now were among the cheapest in the company's lineup. Interestingly, despite the relatively small amount of storage used in the Apple TV 4K, this hardware was hit hardest by the price rises. For people planning a purchase, this means current store stocks may be the last chance to buy the device at the old price. Once inventory runs out, the new prices will apply. This is another example of how severely the components crisis is affecting the consumer electronics market.

Macs and iPads Also Getting More Expensive, but iPhones Remain Unchanged

Price increases are not limited to Apple TV. New prices also affect the MacBook Neo, MacBook Air, MacBook Pro, iMac, Mac mini, Mac Studio, iPad Air, iPad Pro, HomePod, HomePod mini and Vision Pro. Apple did not give one single common reason for every device category, but all changes are said to result from the same availability problems and rising costs of key components. It’s worth noting, however, that the company chose not to raise prices on its most important products, namely iPhones and AirPods. According to industry reports, Apple is deliberately keeping smartphone prices at current levels, offsetting higher production costs by raising prices on less popular devices. That helps keep flagship phones more competitive in the market. The situation is much worse for the Apple TV 4K, though. After the new increases the device now costs the same as the NVIDIA Shield, while being clearly more expensive than the competing Google TV Streamer, which is priced at around $75. The gap between the platforms is therefore becoming very large. At the same time, growing signs point to Apple preparing a new generation of Apple TV with support for Apple Intelligence, Siri AI and a more powerful processor. The current price hike may therefore also be part of preparations for the next model’s launch. For consumers this means a tougher choice. On the one hand the current Apple TV is significantly more expensive than it was a few months ago, and on the other hand a new generation could appear in the near future. As a result, the purchase decision becomes much less obvious than before.

Apple significantly raised the prices of many of its devices, but the biggest change was for the Apple TV 4K, whose price increased by as much as 55 percent. The company attributes the decision to a sharp rise in the costs of memory and storage media, driven by the expansion of AI infrastructure. At the same time, iPhone and AirPods prices remain unchanged.
