The new version of the RCS standard aims to make communication between Android and iPhone users significantly more private. Messages will now be comprehensively encrypted, meaning their content will remain hidden while being transmitted between devices. Users will see a special padlock icon on conversations using the new security feature. The function is activated automatically and will gradually appear in both new and existing RCS chats with supported carriers.

Apple is still heavily promoting iMessage

Although Apple is working with Google on the development of secure RCS, the company simultaneously emphasizes that iMessage remains the best way to communicate between Apple devices. Apple's system has utilized end-to-end encryption from the beginning and is heavily developed with user privacy in mind. Nevertheless, the implementation of encrypted RCS is a very important step for the entire market. The standard is set to gradually replace traditional SMS and MMS, offering modern features such as sending high-quality photos, typing indicators, advanced group chats, and read receipts.
