YouTube is introducing a new feature based on artificial intelligence that allows Premium users to create playlists using simple text or voice commands. To use it, simply go to the Library tab, click on New, and select the AI playlist option. The user then provides a phrase describing the genre, and the system automatically compiles a tailored list of tracks. This feature is designed to speed up music discovery and better match playlists to moods and occasions.
AI increasingly important in YouTube strategy
As reported by TechCrunch, YouTube has been experimenting with the use of artificial intelligence to create playlists for some time now. As early as July 2024, a feature for generating personalised radio stations based on user recommendations was being tested in the USA. Similar solutions have also been implemented by competitors such as Spotify, Amazon Music, and Deezer, which shows that AI is becoming the standard in streaming services.
At the same time, YouTube is consistently enhancing the attractiveness of its Premium plan. Recently, the platform began restricting access to song lyrics in the YouTube Music app for some free users, explaining this as a test being conducted on a small group of ad-supported accounts. The entire strategy aligns with the increasing importance of subscriptions for Google, which recently announced that together, Google One and YouTube Premium now have 325 million paying users.
