Samsung plans to significantly increase purchases of LCD panels from Chinese manufacturer BOE. According to reports in the Korean media, the companies have agreed deliveries of up to 9 million panels in 2028. That is more than four times the number in 2025 and another sign of changes in the television market.
Samsung and BOE resume cooperation
PRAD reports, citing Korean ZDNet, that Samsung Electronics is to order 6 to 7 million LCD panels from BOE in 2027 and 8 to 9 million in 2028. By comparison, according to Omdia, the Chinese company supplied Samsung around 2.2 million panels in 2025, and this year's orders are expected to reach 4.4 million.
Cooperation between the two manufacturers had previously been limited by a patent dispute that lasted more than three years between BOE and Samsung Display. The conflict was resolved with an agreement in November 2025, which opened the way for renewed increases in deliveries.
Samsung wants to reduce dependence on TCL
Currently one of Samsung's largest suppliers of LCD panels is CSOT, owned by TCL. Increasing orders from BOE would allow the Korean manufacturer to reduce reliance on a single supplier and strengthen its position when negotiating prices.
This is particularly important as Chinese LCD panel makers have begun raising their product prices. Greater competition among suppliers could help Samsung control television production costs, although it does not automatically mean lower prices in stores.
For now, information about planned orders for 2027 and 2028 has not been officially confirmed by either company.
