The studio responsible for Rayman Legends Retold claims that the upcoming version of the game will offer solutions previously associated mainly with PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X. Everything suggests that Switch 2 could become a much more serious player in the modern console segment than many initially assumed.
Ray tracing and 4K are coming to Nintendo Switch 2
The creators of Rayman Legends Retold have confirmed that the game will utilise ray tracing technology across all platforms. This means that users of Nintendo Switch 2 will also have access to advanced lighting and reflection systems. According to representatives from Ubisoft Montpellier, achieving this goal was not easy. The team had to significantly optimise the Snowdrop engine to ensure a stable 60 frames per second. The developers emphasise that ray tracing is one of the most demanding technologies in contemporary graphics. In many productions, it forces a limitation to 30 FPS. However, in the case of the new Rayman, the aim was to maintain double the frame rate. To achieve this result, the studio employed, among other technologies, NVIDIA DLSS. Thanks to this, the console can render the image at a lower resolution and then intelligently scale it up. In docked mode, players are expected to receive visuals displayed in 4K. During handheld play, the resolution will drop to 1080p, which will help maintain proper performance and battery life. Ubisoft claims that in terms of graphics quality, Switch 2 is very close to the version prepared for Xbox Series S. This is another signal that the new Nintendo console is significantly more powerful than its predecessor.

Even more interesting are the details regarding the level of detail. Ubisoft assures that the amount of detail visible on screen will be very similar to what players will see on PlayStation 5. This enables a more efficient use of hardware power without a noticeable loss of image quality. The creators claim that in practice, the differences between the PS5 version and Switch 2 will be minimal. This also applies to multiplayer gameplay, where the Nintendo console is expected to maintain both a high level of detail and smooth 60 FPS. For many players, this could be one of the most important pieces of information regarding the new console. Until now, Nintendo hardware often received simplified versions of games available on competing platforms. This time, the situation looks completely different. Ubisoft clearly emphasises that Switch 2 allows for much more ambitious projects than the previous generation of devices. If the final version of the game meets the creators' promises, Rayman Legends Retold could become one of the best examples of the potential of the new Nintendo console.
