Even before the premiere of Tron: Ares in cinemas, Disney is releasing refreshed versions of the first two films in full 4K UHD quality with Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos. It’s a great opportunity to revisit the classics and prepare for the third part of the series.
Tron (1982) – digital reconstruction under the supervision of the director
The first "Tron" has been rescaned and restored to remove dirt, distortions, and other imperfections. The process was supervised by the director himself, Steven Lisberger, which guarantees fidelity to the original, but with a picture quality that the film has never had before.
Tron: Legacy (2010) – HDR straight from a digital source
“Tron: Legacy” from 2010 has received a new HDR master, prepared from the original digital files, overseen by director Joseph Kosinski. This allows the cyberpunk aesthetic of the film to take on a new depth of colour and contrast.
Dolby Vision and Atmos – cinema at home
Both films will be available on UHD Blu-ray (in SteelBook® versions) and digitally on platforms such as Apple TV and Fandango at Home (Vudu) from 16 September 2025. The 4K discs are 66 GB, Blu-ray – 50 GB. Disney promises "breathtaking picture quality and powerful Atmos sound," which could indeed make the home viewing experience resemble that of a cinema.
Premiere of "Tron: Ares" – coming in October
On 10th October 2025, "strong>Tron: Ares" will debut in cinemas – the third installment of the series, which will conclude the trilogy after all these years. Disney has announced that the film will also be released later on home media in 4K Dolby Vision and Atmos, but a specific date has yet to be revealed.
