TCL is pushing further into the OLED monitor market and has just unveiled two new models aimed primarily at demanding gamers. The 32X3B and 27X3B are to be the second generation of OLED monitors from the Chinese manufacturer, which until now has been mainly associated with Mini LED TVs. The new designs stand out with a very slim chassis and high brightness reaching up to 1500 nits. The larger model also offers 4K at 240 Hz, and when the resolution is reduced it can reach up to 480 Hz. TCL has not forgotten modern ports, including HDMI 2.1 and DisplayPort 2.1. For now the monitors have debuted in China, but the manufacturer plans to introduce them to Western markets as well.
TCL 32X3B and 27X3B focus on high brightness
TCL 32X3B and 27X3B retain the distinctive, very slim design known from the first generation of devices. The look of the new monitors is one of their greatest strengths, as the construction gives an especially modern and minimalist impression. The 32X3B is fitted with a 32-inch 4K OLED panel. The monitor can operate at a refresh rate of 240 Hz at 4K, which is particularly interesting for users with powerful PCs. Dropping to 1080p, the refresh rate can increase as high as 480 Hz. Compared with the previous 32X3A, TCL has increased the maximum brightness from 1300 to 1500 nits. The manufacturer has also applied an improved anti-reflective coating designed to reduce light reflections. As a result the image should be more readable in brighter rooms. The 27X3B is slightly smaller and offers 1440p resolution and refresh rates up to 280 Hz. This model also reaches 1500 nits peak brightness and has a response time of just 0.03 ms. TCL also states support for 10-bit colour and factory calibration with a Delta E below 1. That means the monitor may be of interest not only to gamers but also to people working in graphics and media editing.
TCL's OLED still without an RGB panel
Despite very ambitious specifications, the new TCL monitors do not use the company's printed RGB OLED technology that is being developed. The manufacturer has used a fourth-generation WOLED panel here, most likely sourced from LG Display. That means TCL is still relying on a rival company's technology instead of using its own CSOT solution. Both monitors are equipped with HDMI 2.1 and DisplayPort 2.1, so there should be no problem taking full advantage of them in modern computers. TCL has also applied B&O audio technology, which should improve the devices' sound performance. The 27X3B additionally features a Black Frame Insertion mode, which can enhance motion clarity in certain applications. The manufacturer therefore targets both models primarily at people who expect very fast, high-quality images. The 32X3B is priced in China at 6,499 yuan, roughly $950. The smaller 27X3B costs 3,699 yuan, about $550. So far TCL has not yet provided official prices or an exact release date for the new monitors in Western markets. However, if the specifications hold up, the 32X3B and 27X3B could be interesting competition for existing OLED monitors from more established manufacturers.
TCL shows it wants to compete more strongly in the OLED monitor market. The 32X3B offers 4K, 240 Hz and even 480 Hz at a lower resolution, while the 27X3B focuses on 1440p and 280 Hz. Both models deliver brightness of up to 1500 nits, very fast response times and modern HDMI 2.1 and DisplayPort 2.1 ports. For now, however, we must wait for their official launch and pricing in Europe.
