TCL has finally released its unconventional, Rubik's cube portable projector, which debuted at CES 2025 and immediately caught the attention of the tech world. Its secret? Two modules connected by a hinge that rotates over 90°, allowing the image to be set in virtually any direction without tripods or additional mounts – “twist and play” in the literal sense. The PlayCube differs from all known “square” projectors: the projection system part and the speaker/battery part can rotate individually, making it incredibly easy and effortless to position the image on a wall or ceiling.
What goodies await us?
Inside we will find Full HD (1080p), support for 4K content, Google TV with Netflix, Prime Video, and other apps, as well as automatic image adjustment and autofocus. The projector weighs less than ~1.3 kg and has a built-in battery lasting up to ~3 hours, which can be quickly recharged in 30 minutes to gain an additional hour of playback. A brightness level of ~750 ISO lumens means that the PlayCube performs excellently at night and in dimly lit interiors, although in full daylight, maximum 150-inch images may be less intense.

TCL PlayCube is a piece of equipment that disrupts the category of portable projectors: thanks to its rotating module, full Android/Google TV, and truly solid brightness in a compact form, it is one of the most interesting “big screens in a small housing” available today. Its global availability continues to expand – available now in the USA and UK, in Europe from September 2025, and it should be arriving in the Polish and Australian markets in the coming months.
