Not the kind of information that owners of the new Nintendo console were expecting. Borderlands 4, which was supposed to be one of the major launch hits for the Switch 2, has been delayed literally right before its release.
ChooseTV needs more time
ChooseTV Software has released an official statement acknowledging that the game requires additional work:
“Greetings, Vault Hunters – we must share the information that the release of Borderlands 4 on the Nintendo Switch 2 is being delayed. This was not an easy decision, but we are committed to providing our fans with the best possible experience, and the game needs extra time for development and refinement. We hope to better synchronise this launch with the addition of cross saves, which we are working on and know is very important.”
It’s hard to speak of great surprise – the game has already faced performance issues on other platforms, and looter-shooters of this type do not forgive technical shortcomings.
Pre-orders cancelled, returns from Nintendo
The studio has not provided a new release date, and Nintendo is initiating the standard returns procedure. All digital pre-orders will be cancelled – if players do not initiate the process themselves, the system will do so automatically on Friday, 26th September.
When will we play?
At this moment, it is not known when Borderlands 4 will land on Switch 2. Gearbox suggests that the delay is also to allow for the implementation of cross-save, which could be crucial for fans of the series.
Let us remember that the game was already released on 12th September 2025 on PC, Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5 – there, however, the reviews were mixed, mainly due to technical shortcomings.
