Samsung has officially launched the world's first Micro RGB television – a gigantic, 115-inch model first presented at CES 2025 – in South Korea. Instead of classic Mini-LEDs, millions of microscopic RGB (red, green, and blue) diodes have been placed directly behind the screen. The result? A wider colour range, more local dimming zones, and even 20% better energy efficiency.
Precision with AI
The heart of the new screen is the Micro RGB AI Engine, analysing the image frame by frame and optimising colours in real-time. The television achieves 100% coverage of the BT.2020 standard and has received the "Micro RGB Precision Colour" certification from VDE. Thanks to AI, the display can enliven muted colours, improve contrast, and provide a significantly more faithful representation of source materials.
Specifications for the Demanding
The new model offers a 4K resolution, a refresh rate of 144 Hz for smooth gaming without blur, support for HDR10+, AI upscaling, as well as a 70-watt 4.2.2 audio system with Dolby Atmos. There are four HDMI 2.1, USB-A, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth available. Additionally, the television can synchronise the picture with Philips Hue smart lighting, creating a cinematic atmosphere in the living room.
Price and Future Plans
In South Korea, the Micro RGB TV costs 44.9 million won (~32,000 USD). It will first enter the American market, followed by other countries. Initially, only the 115” variant will be available, but Samsung is announcing additional models – 75” and 85” in 4K, as well as 98” in 8K. Competition is not resting: Sony is preparing a similar technology for 2026, and Hisense has already showcased its model 116UX RGB-Mini LED.
