"One of the biggest updates in history." The end of the beta – cloud gaming officially on PlayStation Portal!

Calendar 11/7/2025

PlayStation Portal gets full cloud streaming! Sony ends the beta and rolls out the biggest update in the device’s history.

Sony has done what players have been waiting for since the device's launch. PlayStation Portal is finally coming out of beta and officially receiving full support for cloud streaming. This is a huge step forward – and as the company announces – “one of the biggest updates in the history” of this hardware.

The new feature will debut on 6 November 2025 at 3:00 AM Polish time, but it will be available exclusively to PS Plus Premium subscribers – the most expensive subscription option from Sony.

PlayStation Portal Reimagined – This Time Truly Portable

When the Portal launched in November 2023, fans were disappointed. The device only operated within range of a powered-on PS5, which greatly limited its mobility. Now, that is changing.

Thanks to a new update, the PS Portal will no longer require an active PlayStation 5 console – all you need is a fast internet connection. This means that we can play our favourite titles from anywhere – on the go, at work, or in a café.

What's new in the update?

Sony has not limited itself to just one new feature. Here are the main changes that will be available to users:

  • 💨 Full cloud gaming – streaming games from your own library (including Astro Bot, Borderlands 4, Ghost of Yotei) and from the PS Plus catalogue (Cyberpunk 2077, Hogwarts Legacy).

  • 🌐 No need for an activated PS5 – this is finally true mobile gaming.

  • 🎮 New interface – three main icons: “remote play”, “cloud gaming” and “search for game”.

  • 🔊 3D sound and improved connection quality – along with a diagnostic table for network stability.

  • New accessibility options – screen reader, text enlargement and other conveniences.

  • 🛒 In-game purchases and invitations – you can now buy an item in the game and immediately invite a friend to join the session.

Cloud Gaming on PS Portal – only for Premium

It is worth reminding that Poles have been able to test the beta version since November 2024, but only now is the feature being made available to everyone in its full form. Unfortunately – not for free.

To take advantage of cloud gaming, you must have an active PS Plus Premium subscription, which costs 70 zł per month.

A New Lease of Life for PlayStation Portal

Thanks to this update, the Portal is finally becoming what it was meant to be from the beginning – a fully-fledged, portable PlayStation console with cloud access. For many gamers, this could be a reason to take an interest in a device that until now seemed merely a "remote for PS5".

Sony clearly shows that it is not abandoning the Portal – on the contrary, the update on 6th November could be the beginning of its second life.
