Nvidia Shield TV is getting a new update. The manufacturer is not abandoning the iconic device.

Calendar 2/28/2026

Although many older Android TV devices have long lost support from manufacturers, Nvidia once again shows that Shield TV is an exception to the rule. The company recently confirmed that it does not plan to end support "any time soon," and has now released a new system update. Users are now receiving Shield Experience 9.2.4, which is the first major patch since May 2025.

Shield Experience 9.2.4 – what does the update change?

The new software mainly focuses on stability improvements and security. The most important change is the implementation of security patches from January 2026, which is rare for multi-year media devices.

The list of fixes includes:

  • fixing the playback issue with Disney+

  • solving the bug with connecting external remotes (including Xbox controllers after waking from sleep)

  • eliminating accidental waking of the device and equipment via CEC

  • stability fixes for Bluetooth remotes

  • removing the bug that closes settings when activating NVIDIA Share

This is a typical "quality of life" update, but for users, it means genuinely better stability and fewer annoying issues.

Nvidia is not ending support. Or could it be a new model?

Importantly, Nvidia has explicitly stated that it does not intend to abandon updates for Shield TV "in the near future." This is a strong signal for fans of the hardware, which has long been regarded as one of the most powerful Android TV boxes. Speculation is also circulating online that we may see a new device from this line in the future. For now, however, these are merely guesses. The fact remains that the last widely available update took place in May 2025, so the current rollout shows that Nvidia is still actively developing the platform.

Shield TV is still alive and in very good condition. The 9.2.4 update brings security fixes and removes annoying bugs, and Nvidia clearly declares further support. At a time when manufacturers quickly abandon older hardware, such an attitude really stands out.
