Rising component prices mean that building a new gaming PC is becoming an increasingly expensive undertaking. However, not every gamer wants to spend thousands of zloty just to run the latest games at high quality. NVIDIA offers a solution in the form of the GeForce NOW service, which moves demanding computations to the cloud. This means that even a lower-end laptop, a Chromebook or a smartphone can be used to play resource-intensive titles. The service also lets you use your existing game library without having to repurchase them.
Cloud gaming instead of replacing your computer
GeForce NOW lets you run demanding games on hardware that would normally struggle to handle them. All the compute power is provided by NVIDIA's servers and a ready video stream of the game is sent to the user. That means you don't need a powerful processor or a high-end graphics card to use high graphics settings. The service works on PCs, Chromebooks, smartphones, tablets and TVs. There is also an app designed for the Steam Deck. NVIDIA emphasises that GeForce NOW can be an interesting solution for people using older devices. Supported platforms include Steam, Epic Games Store, Xbox PC Game Pass, Battle.net and Ubisoft Connect. So you don't have to repurchase a game you already own on one of the supported services. Another advantage is that you don't have to download huge updates to your local drive. Games run in the cloud, so even an update taking tens of gigabytes does not have to prevent you from starting to play. GeForce NOW can thus extend the life of older hardware, because the demanding processing does not burden its components in the same way as traditional gaming.
Different quality tiers and even 5K at 120 FPS
GeForce NOW offers several access tiers, allowing users to tailor the service to their needs. The free option lets you play at 1080p at up to 60 FPS, although individual sessions are time‑limited. The higher Performance plan provides gameplay at up to 1440p at 60 FPS and supports RTX technology. The most advanced Ultimate tier uses servers equipped with GeForce RTX 5080 GPUs. In this case users can get up to 8 hours per session. For supported games the service also allows streaming at 5K at 120 FPS. Supported technologies include DLSS 4 and full ray tracing. NVIDIA says this level of performance can deliver capabilities that exceed the experience offered by the PlayStation 5 Pro. The GeForce NOW library already includes over 5000 games and is continually growing. Those unsure about the service’s quality can try the free tier or opt for a one‑day pass before buying a full subscription. This makes cloud gaming an alternative to costly PC upgrades, especially for occasional players or people who use lower‑end hardware every day.
NVIDIA GeForce NOW aims to prove that you don't always need an expensive computer to play demanding games. By using cloud servers you can enjoy high-quality graphics even on older devices. A major advantage is the ability to link the service to game libraries you already own. With a suitable internet connection, this can be a convenient alternative to buying a new PC.
