The market for portable gaming computers is developing at a lightning pace. Following the successes of the Steam Deck, ASUS ROG Ally, and Lenovo Legion Go, more manufacturers are trying to capture the attention of gamers. MSI has just officially unveiled the Claw 8 EX AI+ model, which is one of the first handhelds to utilise the new Intel Arc G3 Extreme architecture. The device offers a more powerful graphics chip, a fast screen, and modern connectivity technologies. At the same time, it features a large battery that is supposed to ensure long usage without charging. However, everything suggests that this innovation will not belong to the cheaper devices.
New Intel processor and 120 Hz screen
The heart of the Claw 8 EX AI+ is the Intel Arc G3 Extreme processor based on the Panther Lake architecture. The chip offers up to 14 processor cores and 12 Xe3 graphics cores, which aims to provide high performance in both gaming and more demanding tasks. The manufacturer has also equipped it with an 8-inch IPS display with a resolution of 1920 × 1200 pixels. The display supports refresh rates from 48 to 120 Hz and VRR technology, with a brightness of up to 500 nits. Users also have access to a maximum of 32 GB of LPDDR5X memory and a PCIe 4.0 SSD.
Large battery and modern connectivity
MSI has equipped the handheld with an 80 Wh battery, the same as in the previous Claw 8 AI+ model. The device also offers Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, two Thunderbolt 4 ports, a microSD card reader, and a classic 3.5 mm headphone jack. The total weight is approximately 785 grams. The manufacturer has not yet disclosed the official price, but according to leaks, the device may cost around 1499 dollars. The market launch is set for 23 June.
MSI Claw 8 EX AI+ looks set to be one of the most powerful handhelds featuring the new Intel chips. High performance and modern components may, however, also mean a very high price, which will limit the interest of less demanding gamers.
