The creators have released the first episode of the expansion Secrets of the Spiral, which takes players to a new location known as Backstage. It is there that we meet the Puppeteer, a mysterious figure responsible for creating the puppets that appear in Carnevale. The new chapter expands the story of Low and Alone while introducing new enemies and unsettling secrets hidden deep behind the scenes. As is the case with Little Nightmares, there will also be a grotesque atmosphere and a constant sense of danger.

Puppeteer resides in the hidden backstage of Carnevale, where in her workshop she creates puppets that serve both for entertainment and maintaining order throughout the complex. At first glance, she resembles the perfect lady, but behind her elegant appearance lies a mechanical nature and a ruthless approach to everything she does. Every move she makes seems meticulously planned, and every detail is perfected. Her obsession is creating new dolls, which is why she is constantly on the lookout for more "materials" she can use in her projects. The workshop is filled with needles, scissors, and unfinished constructions resembling living beings. Players visiting Backstage will quickly discover that Puppeteer does not tolerate mistakes and can be extremely dangerous.
One of her most menacing attacks is her hypnotic gaze, which can immobilise her victim on the spot. Escaping from her requires not only reflexes but also cooperation between the heroes. The creators have also prepared a new mechanic using special helmets that emit intense bursts of light. With them, it is possible to temporarily weaken the adversary and gain a few precious seconds for escape. Everything suggests that Puppeteer could become one of the most memorable characters in the series' history. Her design fits perfectly into the distinctive style of Little Nightmares, combining childlike motifs with unsettling horror. She is an opponent who instills fear even before she appears on screen. For many players, she may become as iconic as Lady or Thin Man from previous instalments.
A new story takes players even deeper into the mysteries of Spiral
The plot of the expansion begins with the abduction of Alone, who Low loses sight of and wakes up without his companion. During his search, he meets a new character named Dime, who helps him navigate the dangerous corners of Backstage. Together, they try to find Alone before she becomes another puppet in the Puppeteer's collection. Along the way, players will also encounter mysterious beings known as Remains. These are dark shadows of children lurking in the darkness and hunting other visitors to Spiral. Their origin remains a mystery, yet many indications suggest that they may be connected to events taking place behind the scenes of the theatre. The expansion develops the lore of the universe and provides new information about the inhabitants of this nightmarish world. The creators also hint at a possible connection between the Puppeteer and a character mentioned earlier in the podcast Sounds of Nightmares. For fans following the story of the series, this could mean further important answers regarding the mysteries of The Nowhere. Backstage offers completely new locations, puzzles, and stealth sequences that aim to further emphasise the atmosphere of uncertainty.
