LG will showcase the first "Micro RGB" LCD television at CES 2026!

Calendar 11/7/2025

LG will unveil its first LCD TV featuring Micro RGB technology at CES 2026. The new RGB LED backlight promises more vibrant colors and improved energy efficiency.

LG is not giving up on OLEDs, but in 2026 it will surprise with a new direction. The company announced that during the CES 2026 in Las Vegas, it will present its first LCD television with Micro RGB backlighting technology. This information appeared in a press release where LG boasted about winning numerous CES Innovation Awards 2026.

“Among the distinguished products is also a premium class LCD television with Micro RGB technology – reported LG Electronics.

OLED and LCD side by side

This means that LG – much like Samsung – plans to maintain two parallel lines of televisions:

  • OLED, still the flagship segment of the brand,

  • and advanced LCD with a new type of backlighting, which is meant to compete with solutions from Hisense, Samsung, and TCL.

What is Micro RGB?

Micro RGB”, also known as RGB LED, is a modern backlighting technology that replaces traditional white diodes with three separate ones – red, green, and blue.

This solution:

  • significantly widens the colour palette (approaching the Rec.2020 standard),

  • provides better energy efficiency,

  • and more natural colour representation.

This technology is meant to be the successor to miniLEDs – currently the most popular solution among premium LCDs.

Hisense and Samsung have already released giant LCD televisions with RGB LED backlighting, and in 2026 they plan to introduce cheaper models. Sony will also join the game, and TCL has showcased the first such panels in China – with a global premiere coming soon.

LG at CES 2026

LG also announced that its transparent OLED Signature OLED T has won the title of Best of Innovation CES 2026 – even though it was already a main attraction at the exhibition the previous year. However, the company did not disclose details regarding the new line of OLEDs for 2026. A 6K LCD monitor LG with Thunderbolt 5 will also be showcased, previously shown at CES 2025.

The new Micro RGB LCD TV is a sign that LG is not focusing solely on OLEDs. The brand intends to compete in the premium LCD market, offering solutions that can genuinely compete with top models from Samsung or Hisense. CES 2026 is therefore looking exceptionally vibrant – literally and figuratively.
