Lenovo is preparing another portable gaming device that stands out with an exceptionally slim design. The new Legion C700 is said to be significantly lighter and thinner than most handhelds currently available. The manufacturer has already revealed the device's appearance and some of its equipment, but has still not disclosed the most important information about its internal components. Everything suggests the new model will be designed mainly with cloud game streaming in mind. That could prove to be both its greatest advantage and its biggest limitation. The launch is scheduled for August this year.
Slim design and modern controls are set to be its biggest strengths
The Legion C700 will measure just 14.99 mm at its thinnest point and weigh around 556 grams. By comparison, the Legion Go S weighs about 730 grams, and the ASUS ROG Ally X close to 678 grams, making Lenovo’s new model look set to be one of the most portable handhelds in its class. The device is fitted with a 7.82-inch IPS display with a 120 Hz refresh rate. The manufacturer has also used TMR thumbsticks employing magnetic sensors, which are intended to reduce analogue stick drift. On board there will also be Hall effect triggers, a multi-directional D-pad and four programmable buttons located on the chassis. This setup is intended to provide comfortable control both while gaming and when using streaming services. Lenovo hopes the lower weight will translate into greater comfort during long sessions with the device.
The most important specs remain a mystery
Despite showing the design and part of the specification, Lenovo has not yet revealed the processor, amount of RAM, storage capacity or battery size. These elements will decide whether the Legion C700 can run games locally or will be almost entirely reliant on cloud gaming. The handheld is being developed in cooperation with Tencent and is set to use the START Cloud Gaming service, which allows games to be streamed from external servers. The partnership with the Chinese giant also suggests the device may initially be available only on the Chinese market. Lenovo has announced a launch for August 2026, but has not provided a price or information on possible global distribution. The device’s success will depend mainly on the pricing and on whether users accept its strong focus on cloud gaming. The history of similar devices shows that such designs tend to appeal mainly to a narrow group of users.
The Legion C700 looks set to be an exceptionally light and slim handheld for gamers, but its main selling point will be cloud gaming. The lack of information about key components means we'll have to wait before we can judge the device's capabilities. Lenovo should reveal more details ahead of its August launch.
