Cybercriminals are increasingly using phone calls, SMS and emails to extort money and data. Apple wants to better protect users against these kinds of threats. In iOS 27 a new system called Trust Insights will be introduced that will analyse an iPhone owner's behaviour during potentially dangerous situations. When it detects signs of manipulation, it will display an appropriate warning or ask for additional verification. Apple emphasises that the solution has been designed with full privacy in mind.
Trust Insights will detect suspicious user behaviour
The new Trust Insights system was presented at WWDC 2026. The feature analyses how the phone is used during calls, text messages and email correspondence. Apple does not, however, check the contents of calls or messages. Instead, the system looks for unusual behaviour, such as response times or sudden changes in how the device is used. If the algorithms determine that a user may be under pressure from a scammer, they will display an appropriate warning. In some cases, an additional confirmation step or a short delay may be introduced before a transfer is completed. The analysis takes place entirely on the device. After it finishes, the data are deleted immediately and only the final risk assessment is sent to Apple's servers. The result is then compared with the user's account activity to detect any irregularities. Apple emphasises that the solution is intended to protect privacy while effectively reducing the number of successful scams. This is another step in expanding security features across Apple's ecosystem.
The feature will include several types of actions and will be optional
Trust Insights will analyse five main categories of user activity. These include payments, changes to account settings, sending messages and signing documents. Depending on the level of risk, the system will select an appropriate alert. Apple will also let users turn off this feature in their iPhone settings. The company has, however, implemented a special waiting period before the protection can be deactivated. This is intended to prevent scammers from coaxing users into instantly disabling protection during a call. Google Pixel smartphones have offered similar solutions for some time. However, Apple is introducing such an extensive mechanism into iOS for the first time. Trust Insights is set to become one of the key elements protecting iPhone users from increasingly sophisticated fraud attempts. The feature will debut with the release of iOS 27.
