Apple is developing CarPlay and is doing so in the direction of AI. In iOS 26.4, support for chatbots such as ChatGPT, Gemini, and Claude appears directly on the car's screen. This is one of the more interesting changes, as for the first time AI is making its way into the car system in such a direct manner.
ChatGPT and AI in CarPlay but only via voice
The new feature allows the use of chatbots while driving, but in a very limited form. Everything works exclusively through voice without displaying text or images. This is a deliberate move by Apple, which prioritises safety. AI is activated immediately in conversation mode so that the driver does not have to look at the screen. Siri cannot be replaced either, so chatbots function more as an addition than a main assistant.
The second novelty is a widget with ambient music. Apple adds ready-made playlists to CarPlay tailored for different situations, such as relaxation or focus. It’s a small change, but it aligns with the trend of creating a more comfortable experience in the car, rather than just functional.
Video in the Car is Getting Closer
The system's code has shown traces of the video function in CarPlay. Apple has not confirmed it yet, but everything indicates that it is already close to implementation. Of course, such an option will most likely only work while stationary, but it could still significantly change the way we use the system.
iOS 26.4 demonstrates that CarPlay is beginning to move towards intelligent systems based on AI. Chatbots in the car, new features, and multimedia development signal that Apple wants to change the way we use technology while driving. This is just the beginning, but the direction is very clear.
