Gmail with AI Inbox. Google is transforming the email inbox into an intelligent task centre.

Google is beginning to implement a new feature that could completely change the way we use email. AI Inbox in Gmail is not just another add-on, but an attempt to transform the inbox into an intelligent information management hub. Instead of the classic list of messages, the user receives a summary of the most important things to keep track of. The feature works alongside the standard view and uses AI to filter what is truly significant. For now, it is only available to a selected group of users, but the direction of change is very clear.

AI instead of a traditional inbox

Google is introducing a new AI Inbox view in Gmail, which shows a personalised summary instead of a regular list of emails. Users can see, among other things, a section called "Suggested to-dos" with tasks to complete, such as bills or reminders, as well as "Topics to catch up on," where AI groups less urgent topics. Everything is linked to specific emails, but there is no need to open them immediately to understand the context.

Gemini analyses, but privacy is to be maintained

The feature operates on the basis of Gemini and uses data from emails to create context, but Google emphasises what is known as "engineered privacy", meaning the processing of data in an isolated environment. The user can also disable AI at any time. For now, AI Inbox is reaching subscribers of the AI Ultra plan, which indicates that the most advanced features of Gmail are becoming part of a paid ecosystem.

Google wants to transform email into something more than just an inbox, and it seems that AI is beginning to take on the role of a personal assistant in communication. If this catches on, traditional email browsing may become a thing of the past.
