From 8th October on the Disney+ platform in Europe, Australia and other international markets, there has been a significant change – the well-known Star tab has officially been replaced by Hulu. This is a major step by Disney towards the global unification of its brands.
Hulu instead of Star
Hulu will now become a global general entertainment brand within Disney+, encompassing all content that does not directly fall under categories such as Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars or National Geographic.
– “The strength and value of the Hulu brand will reach audiences around the world from 8 October, when it becomes a global General Entertainment brand within Disney+, replacing Star in international markets,” Disney announced.
If you open the Disney+ app in Poland, Europe or Australia, the Hulu tab should already be visible in the service's interface.
What’s new to watch on Hulu on Disney+?
This month, a new batch of titles will appear in the Hulu section, including:
The Balloonist
The Empty Man
The Lost Station Girls
Fate
Oklahoma City Bombing: One Day in America
Murdaugh: Death in the Family
To Cook a Bear
In the following weeks, series such as The Kardashians S7, All’s Fair, The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives S3, and A Thousand Blows S2 will also be released.
Full integration in the USA and a new interface
In the United States, Disney is working on the full integration of Hulu with the Disney+ app, which aims to simplify access to content and unify the user experience. Let’s recall that Hulu was created as a joint platform of NBCUniversal, Fox and Disney; however, last year Disney acquired 100% of the shares in the service.
Along with this change, Disney+ is also introducing a new user interface, which is currently being tested in the USA. It is expected to launch in Europe later this year, along with additional personalisation features.
Price Increases and Disney's New Direction
New content and a revamped interface are not the only changes – in recent weeks Disney+ has also announced price increases in the United States and many European countries.
This is also the beginning of a new chapter: Hulu on Disney+ is set to become a global hub for series and films aimed at adult audiences – something akin to a combination of Netflix and FX within a single app.
Hulu replaces Star on Disney+ – the change is already visible in Poland and across Europe.
More content, new interface and a coherent brand – Disney is unifying its services worldwide.
