Diablo 4 begins a new season. Blizzard introduces huge changes and a free new feature.

Blizzard has released another major update for Diablo 4. Season of Death Awakening begins a new chapter following the events of the Lord of Hatred expansion and brings a host of new features for all players. The developers have reworked some key mechanics, added new endgame activities and expanded the seasonal reward system. Changes based on community feedback from the PTR tests are also included. The new season launched on 30 June and is available on all platforms.

The new season brings powerful enemies and a reworked endgame

The main attraction of Season of Death Awakening is Pandemonium Ruptures, the new rifts appearing in the world of Sanctuary. Players will fight new enemies belonging to the Cult of Death, seal dangerous rifts and earn special rewards for keeping them active for as long as possible. The season also introduces an expanded Mythic Uniques 3.0 system, which offers far greater options for creating your own builds. Blizzard has also reworked the Horadric Cube, adding new options for upgrading gear. The developers have expanded the Solo Self Found mode as well, intended for players who want to progress a character without help from others. Another important addition is the full release of the Tower and Leaderboards system, which, after the testing phase, offers seasonal leaderboards and unique rewards. The update also contains numerous class balance fixes, gameplay quality improvements and changes prepared based on player feedback from public tests. Blizzard emphasises that the aim of the new season was to increase gameplay variety and encourage experimentation with new character builds.

Blizzard lets players try the Warlock class for free

One of the biggest surprises of the new season is a free trial of the Warlock class. Every player can try the new class without having to buy the Lord of Hatred expansion. Free access runs until 7 July, and any progress made will be preserved if you later purchase the expansion. In addition, Blizzard has prepared a new Battle Pass with cosmetic rewards, special Twitch Drops and seasonal challenges. Players can earn new mounts, armour pieces and adornments available exclusively in Season of Death: Awakening. The update also includes further changes to the crafting system and the ability to modify selected affixes on legendary items. The developers have announced further events and updates throughout the season. Everything suggests that Diablo 4 is entering a new phase of development after the conclusion of the Lord of Hatred expansion's story.

Season of Death Awakening introduces new activities to Diablo 4, a reworked Mythic Uniques system, Tower leaderboards and a free trial period for the Warlock class. Blizzard hopes the expanded update will encourage both new and returning players to revisit the Sanctuary.
