ASUS has unveiled another monitor that should interest fans of fast‑paced gaming. The ROG Strix XG27ACMSR features a 27‑inch Fast IPS panel, WQHD resolution and a refresh rate of up to 640 Hz! The manufacturer has employed Triple Mode technology, allowing switching between three resolutions and refresh rates.
The new ASUS monitor uses a Fast IPS panel with a native resolution of 2560 × 1440 pixels. The manufacturer declares a response time of 1 ms GtG (minimum 0.3 ms), 95% coverage of the DCI-P3 colour space and a contrast ratio of 1100:1.
The most interesting feature, however, is Triple Mode, which lets the user choose one of three operating modes:
Resolution | Refresh rate |
|---|---|
WQHD (2560 × 1440) | 360 Hz (OC) |
Full HD (1920 × 1080) | 420 Hz |
HD (1280 × 720) | 640 Hz |
This means that the maximum 640 Hz is available only at HD resolution. This solution is aimed primarily at esports players for whom smoothness and response time may be more important than image detail.
Not just the hertz. ASUS also focuses on reducing motion blur
The monitor supports ELMB-Sync, which allows the simultaneous use of adaptive sync and backlight strobing to reduce motion blur. It also includes FreeSync Premium, compatibility with G-Sync and the Variable Overdrive 2.0 feature. ASUS has also implemented Smart Pixel technology, designed to improve image sharpness at lower resolutions.
HDR is somewhat weaker. The monitor offers brightness up to 400 nits and DisplayHDR 400 certification, but it lacks local dimming of the backlight. So you should not expect a particularly impressive HDR image. It is equipped with HDMI 2.1, DisplayPort 1.4 and USB-C.
The price and availability date of the monitor in Poland remain unknown.
