Does a good projector have to cost several thousand zlotys? Chinese company GlowBox has unveiled its first model, the R1, which offers native Full HD resolution, automatic image adjustment and 620 CVIA lumens of brightness. The biggest surprise, however, is the price: the device costs just 699 yuan, about 500 zł!
GlowBox R1 uses LCD technology with a panel supplied by BOE. The projector offers resolution of 1920 × 1080 pixels, a claimed contrast ratio of 3000:1 and support for HDR content. It can also decode 4K films, although it displays them in Full HD.
The manufacturer states a brightness of 620 lumens CVIA, but bear in mind that the Chinese standard differs from the common ANSI and ISO ones. Only independent tests will show how the device performs in practice.
Up to 120 inches and automatic image adjustment
The GlowBox R1 can project an image up to 120 inches diagonally. With a throw ratio of 1.25:1 it requires roughly 3.3 metres from the wall. An interesting feature is an integrated mount that allows the projector to be rotated 360 degrees and to project onto the ceiling. The device also includes a ToF sensor and a gyroscope, responsible for automatic focus adjustment and image geometry correction.
It includes Wi‑Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.4 and two 3 W speakers. The unit runs Dangbei OS, which the manufacturer says does not show ads during startup or when casting content.
The projector weighs just 1.18 kg, and went on sale in China on 15 October. The price is 699 yuan (about 500 zł). It is not yet known whether the GlowBox R1 will also be released in Europe.
It is an interesting offering in the budget segment, although the actual image quality remains unknown.
