ASUS has added a new ROG Strix OLED XG32UQDS monitor to its lineup. It's a 31.5-inch QD-OLED with 4K resolution, a 180 Hz refresh rate and a 0.03 ms response time. However, the most interesting element is not the specification itself but the BlackShield layer, which is designed to improve the appearance of blacks in a bright room and increase the durability of the panel surface.
BlackShield is intended to improve blacks in bright light
One of the characteristic flaws of QD-OLEDs is that in strong external light blacks can take on a purplish or reddish tint. ASUS intends to reduce this effect using the BlackShield layer. The manufacturer even claims a 40 per cent improvement in perceived black level in bright surroundings compared with earlier QD-OLED panels. The coating is also said to provide 2.5 times greater scratch resistance. ASUS describes the panel used as a third-generation QD-OLED. PRAD points out, however, that the presence of BlackShield may indicate solutions associated with newer designs.
4K, 180 Hz and OLED Anti-Flicker 2.0
XG32UQDS runs at a resolution of 3840 × 2160 pixels at 180 Hz. The manufacturer specifies 0.03 ms GtG, 99% DCI‑P3 coverage and 10‑bit colour depth. Maximum stated brightness is around 450 nits. The monitor supports AMD FreeSync Premium Pro and G‑SYNC Compatible. We also get ELMB to reduce motion blur and the OLED Anti‑Flicker 2.0 feature, which is designed to reduce image flicker when the refresh rate changes. ASUS also includes the OLED Care Pro package with a presence sensor. If the user leaves the desk, the monitor can automatically switch off the screen, reducing the risk of burn‑in. The manufacturer offers a 3‑year warranty covering OLED burn‑in.
Launch later this year
PRAD reports that, according to ASUS, the monitor should reach the German market by the end of 2026. The price in euros has not yet been given. We have no information yet on a Polish launch.
