The company officially announced tvOS 27, which is the next major update to the system for its media players. This time, the main goal is to improve the speed and fluidity of the entire device operation. The update also brings several new features for Apple Music, HomeKit, and system applications. However, all indications are that the most interesting novelties may only arrive with the release of the new Apple TV 4K.
Apple focuses on the speed of the entire system
After significant visual changes introduced a year ago, Apple has decided to concentrate on performance. According to the company, apps in tvOS 27 are expected to launch up to 30 percent faster than before. Improvements also include the Control Centre, which is designed to respond more promptly to user commands. Users of AirPlay and HomePod smart speakers will also feel the acceleration. The process of connecting devices is set to be faster and more reliable. Apple has also enhanced the functionality of Apple Music, reducing the time required to start playing music. For high-quality audio enthusiasts, support for the Hi-Res Lossless format has been prepared, with quality reaching 24-bit and 192 kHz. The update also brings intelligent content downloading and a reduction in app size through more efficient management of language packs. The company has also taken care of game controller settings, which are set to offer greater configuration flexibility. The support for the Thread standard used in smart homes has also been improved. All these changes are intended to make using Apple TV more comfortable every day. Although some of the new features are not spectacular, their impact on the daily operation of the device may prove to be very noticeable.
Music, podcasts and accessibility gain new opportunities
tvOS 27 also brings a number of changes to multimedia applications. One of them is a completely revamped Podcasts app. The new interface aims to facilitate browsing both audio podcasts and video content. The app has also introduced additional sections related to Apple services. Users taking advantage of smart home systems will gain the ability to manage 4K recordings from cameras connected to Apple Home. An important novelty is the improvements in accessibility. Support for Made for iPhone compatible hearing aids has also been expanded. As a result, their operation is expected to resemble that of AirPods, offering easier switching between devices. Many of these features could prove particularly useful for individuals using Apple TV as their primary home entertainment centre. Meanwhile, some market observers believe that Apple has deliberately reserved the most significant innovations for a later presentation of the new Apple TV 4K model. There is speculation that the device may receive support for Apple Intelligence and more advanced artificial intelligence-based features.
tvOS 27 does not bring a revolution, but focuses on what users most often expect: speed and ease of use.
