Apple is preparing significant changes in the upcoming iOS 27 and macOS 27 systems. The company aims to heavily venture into AI and focus on features that can clearly outpace the competition, particularly in photo editing and the Siri assistant.
AI will change photo editing
A new section called “Apple Intelligence Tools” is expected to be added to the Photos app. This is where three key features will appear:
Extend – extending a photo beyond its original frame
Enhance – automatic enhancement of quality, light and colours
Reframe – changing perspective, especially in spatial photos
The most interesting feature appears to be Extend, which will allow for “completing” missing fragments of a photo using AI. In practice, this means something akin to generative image expansion known from professional tools, but available directly on the phone.
New Siri like a chatbot
Apple is also working on a completely refreshed version of Siri, which is expected to operate more like a chatbot. Interestingly, it will utilise technology inspired by Google Gemini models.
The new Siri will:
analyse user data and operate within applications
generate content and assist with work
handle more complex commands
have its own app with a conversation history
Additionally, Apple is testing integration with external AIs, such as ChatGPT or Claude, which could significantly enhance the capabilities of the assistant.
In iOS 27, Apple wants to go even further; Siri could replace classic Spotlight search and become the central point of system control. There are also ideas for integration with Dynamic Island and a more 'alive' interface.
Apple is clearly betting everything on AI in the upcoming systems. If the new features work as the leaks suggest, iPhones and Macs could gain some of the most advanced tools for photo editing and AI work on the market.
