Google is preparing a successor to its popular media player. According to 9to5Google, the new Google TV Streamer will feature a more powerful processor, more memory and features that could significantly simplify using the TV. The biggest new additions are expected to be built-in microphones and a presence sensor.
The current Google TV Streamer debuted in 2024, replacing Chromecast devices. The manufacturer is now working on an improved version that will retain a similar appearance, although the casing will be slightly slimmer. The most important change will be microphones built directly into the streamer. Thanks to them, users will be able to give voice commands using the 'Hey Google' prompt, without having to reach for the remote.
More powerful processor and more memory
The new model is set to receive a more powerful chipset than the MediaTek MT8696 used in its predecessor, and more than the current 32 GB of app storage. Also of interest is the presence sensor, which could automatically activate the screensaver or display weather information when it detects someone in the room. Changes will also include the remote control, which will gain two extra app shortcut buttons. The remote-finding feature will be retained.
So far it is not known when the new Google TV Streamer will go on sale or how much it will cost. All information comes from unofficial reports, and Google has not yet announced the device.
