Projectors are increasingly competing with televisions, including on gaming features. Chinese company JMGO has unveiled the N5S Turbo model, which is said to offer 4K at 120 Hz, VRR support and high brightness. The biggest surprise, however, is the price, which comes in at around 8,000 yuan, or just over €1,000.
The JMGO N5S Turbo uses a new QuaLas 42 laser light source. The manufacturer claims a brightness of 3600 lumens (CVIA) and a native contrast ratio of 5000:1. However, bear in mind that the Chinese CVIA standard differs from the widely used ANSI and ISO standards, so these figures are not directly comparable.
120 Hz and VRR. A projector for gamers?
The biggest attraction of the new model is support for 4K at 120 Hz and VRR, i.e. variable refresh rate. The technology synchronises the display's refresh with the number of frames generated by a console or PC, reducing screen tearing. Onboard it also features Lens Shift, enabling optical image shift vertically and horizontally, and an optical zoom with a throw ratio of 0.98–1.4:1. There is also integration with the Xiaomi Mijia smart home ecosystem. Sales of the JMGO N5S Turbo in China are due to begin on 12 October 2026. The projector is targeted at a price of around 8,000 yuan (about €1,070). So far the manufacturer has not confirmed a European launch.
If the claimed specifications are confirmed in independent tests, the new JMGO could prove an interesting alternative to a large gaming TV.
