Fans of science fiction have many reasons to be pleased this year. The summer months bring both long-awaited continuations of well-known TV series and brand-new films. Among the most talked-about premieres are the new seasons of Silo and Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, as well as the theatrical film The Dog Stars. But that's just the beginning of the treats lined up for the second half of 2026. In autumn and winter viewers can expect further major science fiction premieres. Here are the most interesting productions to follow.
Silo, Star Trek and The Dog Stars are the biggest summer premieres
One of the most important television events is the third season of Silo, whose new episodes are arriving on Apple TV on a weekly schedule. The production remains one of the most highly rated contemporary science fiction series and once again takes viewers into a mysterious underground world. Shortly afterwards the second season of Dark Matter will debut on Apple TV as well. Fans of the Star Trek universe can prepare for the fourth season of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, which will premiere at the end of July. New episodes will be released weekly. Among the film releases, The Dog Stars, directed by Ridley Scott, stands out. The film is due in cinemas at the end of August and tells a story set in a post-apocalyptic world. Disclosure Day and The Mandalorian & Grogu are also due for home release soon. The sci-fi horror Backrooms also deserves attention, having attracted considerable interest even before its premiere. This summer therefore offers an unusually wide range of titles for fans of science fiction. The diversity of genres means there is something for everyone. It is one of the strongest science fiction seasons in several years.
Autumn and winter will bring more major science fiction premieres
The second half of the year will also see several highly anticipated releases. In November the series Blade Runner 2099 will debut, a premiere confirmed by Amazon Prime Video. That same month The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping will also reach cinemas. One of the biggest year-end events, however, will be Dune: Part Three, scheduled for release on 18 December. On the same day Avengers: Doomsday will also hit cinemas, promising an especially heated box-office rivalry. Cyberpunk fans, meanwhile, are waiting for the television adaptation of William Gibson’s novel Neuromancer. A first trailer has already been released, but an exact premiere date has not yet been revealed. There is speculation that the series could debut on Apple TV before the end of 2026. If those plans go ahead, the second half of the year will be exceptionally rich in science fiction productions. Many of them represent the biggest and most recognisable franchises in the genre. All that remains is to wait for more trailers and official release dates. Everything suggests that 2026 will go down as a very successful year for science fiction fans.
Summer 2026 offers science fiction fans an exceptionally rich selection of films and TV series. Silo, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds and The Dog Stars, together with titles announced for the coming months (Blade Runner 2099, Dune: Part Three and Neuromancer), mean fans of the genre will have no shortage of premieres.
