This week brings several interesting premieres for fans of series and streaming. Among them is the long-awaited return of Reacher, which once again takes viewers into a world full of action, investigations and dangerous adversaries. Lanterns will also arrive on HBO Max, one of the most significant new titles in the expanding DC universe. Fans of more offbeat shows can check out The Chosen in the Wild with Bear Grylls. Each of these productions offers a completely different vibe, so there will definitely be plenty to watch in the coming days.

Reacher returns with another dangerous case

The biggest premiere of the week on Prime Video is the fourth season of Reacher, which returns with a new story inspired by a novel by Lee Child. Alan Ritchson once again plays Jack Reacher, a former military investigator who, as usual, finds himself in the middle of an exceptionally dangerous case. This time everything begins with an encounter with a mysterious woman on the metro, which leads the protagonist into a much larger investigation. Reacher will have to face further adversaries and use his experience to uncover what really happened. The new season is set to retain the distinctive mix of brutal action, crime and dark humour that has become the show's hallmark. The first three episodes will be released at once, with the rest arriving weekly. In total the fourth season will consist of eight episodes. The popularity of previous instalments means expectations for the new story are very high. Amazon has already confirmed a fifth season, so fans need not fear this will be the hero's last adventure. If you enjoy series full of chases, fights and criminal puzzles, the new Reacher should be one of the first titles on your list.

Lanterns begins a new chapter of the DC universe

The second major premiere is Lanterns, a new DC series that is set to play a key role in the developing film and television universe. The story focuses on two Green Lanterns – the seasoned Hal Jordan and the young John Stewart. The heroes are tasked with investigating a mysterious murder case in the United States. What at first seems like a routine investigation quickly leads them toward a much greater threat. The creators aim to combine the tone of a police procedural with elements of science fiction, so Lanterns should stand apart from typical superhero fare. Kyle Chandler plays Hal Jordan, while Aaron Pierre portrays John Stewart. The first season will consist of eight episodes released weekly. Among the producers are Chris Mundy, Damon Lindelof, and Tom King. For DC this is a particularly important premiere, because Lanterns is meant to help build a new version of the onscreen universe. If the series succeeds in marrying a strong crime story with the spectacular world of the Green Lanterns, it could become one of DC’s most important new titles.

This week, viewers can choose from three very different series. Reacher is for people looking for action, fights and a criminal mystery. Lanterns will likely appeal mainly to DC fans and fans of science fiction. Meanwhile, The Chosen in the Wild with Bear Grylls offers survival and adventure with actors known from the popular series. All three productions therefore have very different tones. However, Lanterns may attract the most interest, because the series has implications for the future of the entire DC universe.
