PlayStation is once again giving players a voice and asking them to vote for the best new game of last month. The August vote features 20 titles representing a variety of genres and styles of play. Among the nominees are big sports and comic-book franchises as well as smaller, more unusual projects. The list includes, among others, Beast of Reincarnation, Big Walk, Madden NFL 27 and MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls. Voting is now open, and the winner will be announced after all votes are tallied.
As many as 20 games are competing for the title of best August release
PlayStation Blog has published the list of nominees for the August edition of Players' Choice. The lineup includes exactly 20 new games that the editorial team deemed the most noteworthy releases of the month. One of the most recognisable titles is MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls, a fighting game featuring characters from the Marvel universe. The list also includes Madden NFL 27, the latest entry in the popular sports series. Action fans can vote for Beast of Reincarnation or Serious Sam: Shatterverse. Among the nominees is Big Walk, a game geared towards playing together with friends. The roundup also features Captain Tsubasa 2: World Fighters, Blood Dungeon, Brigandine Abyss and Duskfade. There’s the war title Hell Let Loose: Vietnam as well as more unusual offerings like Lou’s Lagoon and Mexican Ninja. Players can also choose Mortal Shell II, Once Human or the soccer title Pro Jank Footy. Other nominations are Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy, Starsand Island, Star Wars Zero Company and The Sinking City 2. Rounding out the list is Wild Blue Skies. This wide range means the vote includes both big releases and smaller titles that can rely on support from specific communities.
Players themselves will decide the winner
The rules of Players' Choice are simple: each voter picks one game they would recommend to a friend as the best new release of the month. PlayStation doesn't impose a specific criterion for judging. It's the player's individual opinion and what they consider the best experience from recent weeks that counts. Standard re-releases of older games can't take part in the vote. Remakes are an exception, provided they are major, ambitious overhauls of the original games. PlayStation cites Resident Evil 4 (2023) and Final Fantasy VII Remake as examples of such titles. The candidate list is prepared by the PlayStation Blog editorial team. The team selects the most notable releases of the month, which then go into the poll. After voting closes, all votes are tallied. PlayStation will announce the result on its social channels and on PlayStation.Blog. That means the final choice will be made by the gaming community, not the editors. August's list is particularly diverse, so it's hard to point to a clear favourite before the results are known. Now it all depends on which of the 20 nominated titles gets the most support.
