Paramount
Paramount

This is one of the biggest changes in the history of the entertainment industry. Paramount Skydance has officially completed its acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery, creating a new media conglomerate called Skydance. In its hands are some of the world's most popular film and TV brands, as well as the HBO Max and Paramount+ platforms. What does this mean for viewers?

The deal was finalised on 6 October 2026, and its value, including debt, was around $111 billion. The new giant controls, among others, Warner Bros., Paramount Pictures, HBO, DC Studios, Nickelodeon, CBS and CNN.

This means franchises such as Harry Potter, The Lord of the Rings, Game of Thrones, Star Trek, Mission: Impossible, Transformers, and Batman and Superman are now under one roof. Skydance therefore has a vast content library that could become one of its biggest assets in competition with Netflix and Disney.

What's next for HBO Max and Paramount+?

One of the key questions remains the future of streaming services. Skydance plans to eventually combine HBO Max and Paramount+ into a single platform, although a detailed timetable for the changes has not yet been announced. It's also unclear how the merger will affect SkyShowtime in Poland, which Paramount co-owns. The new group also intends to invest heavily in theatrical films. It has committed to releasing at least 30 theatrical films a year for the first two years, and then a minimum of 32 a year.

For viewers, however, the most important question is whether the merging of such vast libraries will mean more convenient access to films and TV series, or higher subscription prices.
