Granblue Fantasy: Relink turned out to be one of the nicest surprises for fans of Japanese RPGs in 2024. Now the developers are preparing a major expansion that will significantly expand almost every aspect of the gameplay. Endless Ragnarok will offer a new story, additional characters, fresh endgame activities and more challenging encounters. The creators make no secret that the expansion’s goal is to give veterans dozens more hours of play. Importantly, interested players can already try a free demo of the base game.
New heroes and powerful summons change the combat system
The biggest addition in the expansion is an expanded summoning system that significantly affects how duels play out. Players will be able to use special creatures and supporting characters, taking direct control of them during combat. The mechanic isn’t just for dealing damage — it also lets you survive the most dangerous enemy attacks thanks to temporary invulnerability. Each summon has its own style and specialises in different roles. Some focus on offence, others help control the battlefield or support the team. The expansion also introduces spectacular special attacks triggered by specific team-wide skill combinations. The developers have prepared six new playable characters as well, familiar to fans from earlier entries in the universe. Joining the line-up are, among others, Gallanza, Beatrix, Eustace and Fediel. Each character offers a completely different playstyle and new team-building possibilities. The creators also added extra bosses and powerful foes designed to challenge even the most experienced players. As a result, combat becomes more varied and requires more planning than before. Everything suggests the combat system will undergo one of its biggest evolutions since the game’s launch. That element could be the main reason many players return to the world of Granblue Fantasy.
A new difficulty tier and solo content
Endless Ragnarok isn't limited to new characters and abilities. The expansion also introduces a top difficulty tier called Chaos, aimed at the most advanced players. Even the earliest missions are expected to present a much greater challenge than current endgame activities. Enemies will gain new abilities, and bosses will use special attacks capable of ending fights instantly. Reacting to warning cues and executing perfect dodges will become essential. The developers hope the new difficulty will extend the game's lifespan by many months. At the same time, something has been prepared for players who prefer solo play. The new Conflux mode will let you explore successive zones and pick up randomised upgrades that affect the course of a given session. The setup resembles mechanics from roguelike games, where each run plays out a little differently. Players will earn unique bonuses, tackle successive challenges and gradually strengthen their character. Developers stress the mode is designed for those who don't want to use matchmaking and prefer to play alone. Thanks to randomly generated modifiers, each run should offer a fresh experience. All signs point to Conflux becoming one of the expansion's most visited features among endgame-focused players.
Granblue Fantasy: Relink Endless Ragnarok is set to be one of the biggest expansions prepared for the game since its release. New characters, a summoning system, a Chaos difficulty level and the Conflux mode should significantly extend the game's longevity. The expansion will debut on 9 July for PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4.
