Disney+ is refreshing its look. The new app will first appear on TV devices – Apple TV, Fire TV, Google TV, Roku, and Smart TVs. It will then be available on mobile devices, starting with iOS.
The biggest change is the new top navigation bar, as well as the “For You” tab, which will become the default home page. That’s where users will see personalised recommendations based on their previous viewing habits.
Hulu instead of Star – global change from 8 October
Disney has confirmed that Hulu will replace the Star brand as the international service for entertainment content. The app will feature separate tabs for Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN, allowing each catalogue to be explored individually.
The company emphasises that this is preparation for the launch next year of a integrated app that combines all services. In the coming months, we can expect further changes in the look and navigation that will make the app clearer and more intuitive.
More dynamic look
The new interface is set to be more visual and engaging – on the home screen, there will be a self-playing carousel of material. User Profiles will also be more prominently displayed, so everyone has quick access to content recommended just for them.
New features on iOS and future updates
After the launch on TV, the redesign will come to mobile devices. The first updates will be available for iPhone and iPad users. Disney+ has also announced widgets for iOS, which will allow users to jump directly to programs with one click.
In 2025, there will also be experiences designed specifically for mobile devices to attract new audiences and increase the time spent in the app.
Price Rises and Next Steps
Changes in the interface appear just after the announcement of another price increase for Disney+ subscriptions. It started in the American market, and now higher prices are gradually being introduced in Europe and other regions as well.
The new interface is meant to be a response to increasing competition and at the same time a preparation for a significant step – combining Disney+, Hulu and ESPN into one app.
