iPhone Ultra could get Apple's best display ever. The new foldable model looks impressive.

Leaks about Apple’s first foldable smartphone have been emerging for months. The latest reports suggest the company is preparing a highly advanced design that may launch as the iPhone Ultra or iPhone Fold. The device is expected to use two different OLED panels produced by Samsung, one of which would be among the most advanced displays currently available. In this way Apple aims to deliver the highest image quality while also cutting production costs.

Apple will use two different OLED displays

According to the latest reports, the external display of the foldable iPhone will use Samsung’s newest M16 OLED panel. It’s a screen offering native 10-bit colour depth and significantly better energy efficiency than earlier designs. Interestingly, the device’s inner display is set to use the older M14 OLED panel, which was previously used in other flagship devices. This strategy allows Apple to cut costs without giving up the main benefits of modern display technology. The outer screen will be used most often during everyday phone use, so the company wants to offer the highest possible quality there. The M16 OLED uses, among other things, COE technology, which helps reduce panel thickness and improve power efficiency. More advanced emissive materials are also used, which should translate into better performance and a longer display lifespan. According to leaks, Apple has signed a multi-year agreement with Samsung to supply these panels. The same screens are expected to appear in future iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max models. Everything suggests the company wants to make the most of the latest OLED technologies. For users, that means even better colour reproduction and lower power consumption. The foldable iPhone could become one of the most advanced mobile devices in terms of display quality.

Foldable iPhone to offer an almost invisible crease

Leaks also point to a number of other features intended to set the device apart from the competition. Apple is reportedly working on a design that will almost completely hide the characteristic screen crease found in most foldable smartphones. This is said to be possible thanks to the use of very thin protective glass and special flexible layers placed between display components. A new hinge, partly made from materials previously used in more advanced industrial-grade designs, will also play an important role. According to available information, the hinge is also intended to act as an additional heat-dissipation system. The smartphone is expected to include a vapour chamber for component cooling, the A20 Pro chip, 12 GB of RAM and Apple’s proprietary 5G modem. There are also rumours of a dual 48 MP camera, a selfie camera with up to 24 MP resolution and a battery capacity exceeding 5,400 mAh. The device may use eSIM only and not offer a traditional SIM card slot. The internal display is said to run at a 4:3 aspect ratio with a resolution of 2713 × 1920 pixels. According to current information, the device is planned to launch in autumn 2026. Price is expected to start at around $2,000, making it one of the most expensive smartphones in Apple’s history.

New leaks suggest the foldable iPhone Ultra could get an advanced Samsung M16 OLED display, an almost invisible crease in the screen and flagship-level specifications. If the reports are confirmed, it would be one of Apple’s most ambitious mobile projects in years.
