Amazon presents a new TV stick that goes in a completely different direction than most of the market. The new Fire TV Stick HD can be powered directly from the USB port on the television, which means the end of cable clutter and the need to plug into a power outlet. This solution will particularly appeal to those who value portability and simplicity.
Small gadget, big convenience
The biggest advantage of the new model is its compactness and ease of use. The device is 30% smaller and faster than its predecessor, and thanks to USB power, it can be easily taken on trips and connected to practically any television. It's the perfect solution, for example, for hotels or a second TV at home. The gadget offers Full HD resolution, so we won't find support for 4K or HDR here. Amazon is clearly targeting the lower price range and users who don't need the highest picture quality. Instead, we get access to the new Fire TV interface and integration with Alexa+, allowing for voice control of the device.
Cheap streaming but with compromises
The new Fire TV Stick HD costs around $35, making it one of the cheapest options on the market. At this price, we also get Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.3, so in terms of connectivity, the device is on par with more expensive models. However, it's important to remember that devices of this kind are partially funded by advertisements and user data collection. This is standard in this category, and the low price means certain compromises are involved. Additionally, the lack of Dolby Atmos and 4K means that more demanding users will need to opt for higher models.
The new Fire TV Stick HD shows that simplicity and mobility can be more important than maximum quality, especially in the lower price segment.
