Google is preparing a successor to its popular media player. According to 9to5Google, the new Google TV Streamer will feature a faster processor, more RAM and functions that could significantly simplify using the TV. The biggest new additions are said to be built-in microphones and a presence sensor.
The current Google TV Streamer debuted in 2024, replacing Chromecast devices. The manufacturer is now working on an improved version that will keep a similar look, although the casing will be slightly slimmer. The most important change will be microphones built directly into the streamer. That will let users issue voice commands with the "Hey Google" wake phrase without having to reach for the remote.
More powerful processor and increased memory
The new model is set to receive a more capable chip than the MediaTek MT8696 used in its predecessor, and more than the current 32 GB of memory for apps. Also promising is a presence sensor that could automatically activate the screensaver or show weather information when it detects someone in the room. Changes will also affect the remote, which will gain two additional app shortcut buttons. A feature to locate a lost remote will be retained.
For now, it's not known when the new Google TV Streamer will go on sale or how much it will cost. All information comes from unofficial reports, and Google has not announced the device yet.
