Science fiction fans have plenty to be pleased about this year. The summer months bring both long-awaited new seasons of familiar series and entirely new films. Among the biggest premieres are the next seasons of Silo and Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, as well as the feature film The Dog Stars. But that's just the start of what's lined up for the second half of 2026. In autumn and winter viewers can expect more major science fiction premieres. Here are the most interesting releases to keep an eye on.
Silo, Star Trek and The Dog Stars are the biggest premieres of the summer
One of the most significant TV events is the third season of Silo, with new episodes arriving on Apple TV weekly. The series remains one of the highest-rated contemporary science fiction shows and once again takes viewers into a mysterious underground world. Shortly afterwards the second season of Dark Matter will debut on Apple TV as well. Fans of the Star Trek universe can look forward to the fourth season of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, which will premiere at the end of July. New episodes will be released weekly. Among the film releases, The Dog Stars, directed by Ridley Scott, stands out. The film will hit cinemas at the end of August and tells a story set in a post-apocalyptic world. Disclosure Day and The Mandalorian & Grogu are also set to arrive on home release soon. The science fiction horror Backrooms also deserves attention, having attracted considerable interest even before its release. This summer therefore offers an exceptionally wide range of productions for science fiction fans. The variety of genres means there is something for everyone. It's one of the strongest science fiction seasons in years.
Autumn and winter will bring more major science fiction releases
Several highly anticipated productions have also been announced for the second half of the year. In November the series Blade Runner 2099 will debut, with Amazon Prime Video confirming its premiere. That same month the film The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping will also hit cinemas. One of the biggest events at the end of the year, however, will be Dune: Part Three, scheduled to premiere on 18 December. The same day will also see Avengers: Doomsday hit cinemas, setting up an especially hot box office rivalry. Cyberpunk fans are meanwhile waiting for a series adaptation of William Gibson's novel Neuromancer. The production already has its first trailer, but an exact release date has not yet been revealed. There is speculation the series could debut on Apple TV before the end of 2026. If those plans come to fruition, the second half of the year will be exceptionally rich in science fiction releases. Many of them represent the biggest and most recognisable brands in the genre. All that's left is to wait for more trailers and official release dates. Everything points to 2026 being a very successful year for science fiction fans.
Summer 2026 offers science fiction fans a particularly rich selection of films and TV series. Silo, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds and The Dog Stars, along with upcoming titles such as Blade Runner 2099, Dune: Part Three and Neuromancer, mean fans of the genre won't be short of premieres.
