Fans of the John Wick film series can prepare for something much bigger than a typical "licensed" production. Lionsgate and Saber Interactive have officially announced that a high-budget AAA game is in development focused exclusively on single-player mode. The project is headed to PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, and has been designed from the ground up as a large, ambitious action production. The creators promise a mature tone, brutal confrontations, and a cinematic presentation that captures the essence of the movie original. This is not about a side story, but a full-fledged expansion of the universe. The ambitions are clear – to create a game that feels like an interactive film with Wick in the lead role.
Film choreography and original story
Saber focuses on a dynamic combat system inspired by “gun-fu,” which is the fluid combination of shooting and hand-to-hand combat in spectacular, intense sequences. The creators promise diverse locations, car chases, and a strong emphasis on immersion. The storyline is to be entirely new and set before the events known from the Impossible Task thread. The game will feature both familiar characters from the High Table world and completely new heroes, allowing for an expansion of the universe's mythology.
The project involves film director Chad Stahelski, with Keanu Reeves lending his likeness and voice to the titular hero. The creators emphasize their commitment to authenticity and faithfully capturing the atmosphere of the series, which has become one of the icons of contemporary action cinema.
John Wick as an AAA game promises to be one of the most ambitious adaptations of a film brand in recent years. A full-fledged single-player campaign, cinematic presentation, and direct involvement of the creators of the series significantly raise expectations. Now we have to wait for the first gameplay materials and the release date.
