When Valve unveiled the new Steam Machine, many people doubted whether the device would succeed. The biggest controversy was its high price, which far exceeds the cost of most consoles on the market. However, the latest estimates suggest interest in the device may be greater than expected. Sales data analysis indicates steady demand in the first weeks after launch. Although Valve does not release official sales figures, available information allows an estimate of the level of interest. If the current pace continues, the Steam Machine could achieve a very solid result in its first year on the market.

Estimates suggest as many as 15,000 devices sold per week

According to analysis by Boiling Steam, the new Steam Machine ranks second on Steam’s list of top-selling products. The device sits between Counter-Strike 2 and Palworld, which allowed analysts to estimate its approximate revenue. Based on comparisons with other products, they calculated that the Steam Machine could be generating between $10 million and $18 million in weekly revenue. Taking into account the prices of both available versions, that translates to roughly 12,000 to 15,000 units sold per week. About 65 percent of customers choose the base model, priced at $1,049. The remaining 35 percent opt for the pricier variant, which costs $1,349. Even more conservative estimates put weekly sales at over 8,000 units. For hardware criticized for its high price, those are considered pretty good results. Valve still hasn’t released official sales figures, so all numbers remain estimates.

Initial enthusiasm may fade, but forecasts remain optimistic

The analysts note that the current results may be partly due to a very large number of orders placed immediately after the device's launch. For many new products, sales can drop by as much as 20 to 30 percent after a few weeks once the initial consumer enthusiasm wears off. For that reason, analysts plan to update their estimates regularly over the coming weeks. This will help determine whether interest in the Steam Machine will hold steady. If the current sales pace does not deteriorate significantly, Valve could sell roughly 600,000 to 750,000 units in the first year. That would be a very good outcome for hardware priced at over $1,000. Its high position on Steam's best-seller list shows the device has found an audience despite early criticism. However, only the coming months will show whether the Steam Machine proves to be a long-term commercial success. For now, the available data suggest the launch of the new platform can be considered successful.

Although the Steam Machine has been controversial from the start due to its high price, early sales estimates look promising. According to analyses, the device could find 12,000 to 15,000 buyers per week, and if the current pace of sales continues, first-year sales could exceed 700,000 units. However, only the coming months will bring a final verdict on the success of Valve's new platform.
