Apple has unveiled the new MacBook Air with the M5 chip. The company's most popular laptop has received a faster CPU and GPU, stronger support for AI, and importantly, doubled base storage to 512 GB. Additionally, it features Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, and up to 18 hours of battery life. Pre-orders start on March 4, and the product will be available in stores on March 11.
M5 places greater emphasis on AI and graphics
The new M5 chip offers a 10-core CPU and up to a 10-core GPU with a Neural Accelerator in each core. Apple emphasizes a significant performance increase in AI tasks, both when working with Apple Intelligence and when locally running language models. The chip also supports next-generation ray tracing and offers a memory bandwidth of 153 GB/s (about 28% more than the M4). In practice, this means more efficient multitasking, faster 3D rendering, and better support for creative applications.
512 GB standard and SSD 2x faster
One of the most important changes is the doubling of the base storage to 512 GB. For the first time in the Air, a configuration of up to 4 TB is also available. The new SSD is said to offer even 2x faster write and read speeds compared to previous generations, which will accelerate photo imports, video work, and AI-based projects. The MacBook Air remains ultra-light and completely silent (fanless design). It is available in 13.6” and 15.3” versions with a Liquid Retina display featuring 500 nits brightness and support for a billion colors. Onboard, we find: a 12 MP Center Stage camera, three microphones, an audio system with Dolby Atmos, two Thunderbolt 4 ports, and MagSafe for charging. The new N1 chip provides support for Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6.
MacBook Air with M5 is an evolution, not a revolution – but a very concrete one. More standard memory, faster SSD, and stronger AI support make it an attractive option for students, creators, and business users. Apple is strengthening the Air as a versatile laptop for work, study, and everyday tasks.
