The iPhone Ultra could get Apple's best display yet. The new foldable model looks impressive.

For months there have been repeated leaks about Apple's first foldable smartphone. The latest reports suggest the company is preparing an exceptionally advanced design that could debut as the iPhone Ultra or iPhone Fold. The device is expected to feature two different OLED panels manufactured by Samsung, and one of them will be among the most advanced displays currently available on the market. With this, Apple aims to deliver top image quality while lowering production costs.

Apple will use two different OLED displays

According to the latest reports, the outer display of the foldable iPhone will use Samsung's newest M16 OLED panel. It's a display offering native 10-bit color depth and significantly higher power efficiency compared with older solutions. Interestingly, the device's inner display is expected to use the older M14 OLED panel, which earlier appeared in other flagship models. This strategy lets Apple cut costs without sacrificing the main benefits of modern display technology. The outer display will be used most often during everyday phone use, so the company wants to offer the highest possible quality there. The M16 OLED uses COE technology, among other things, which reduces panel thickness and improves energy efficiency. More advanced materials responsible for light emission were also used, which should translate into better efficiency and longer display lifespan. According to leaks, Apple signed a multi-year agreement with Samsung to supply these panels. The same screens are also expected to appear in future iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max models. Everything indicates the company wants to make the most of the latest OLED technologies. For users, this means even better color reproduction and lower power consumption. The foldable iPhone could become one of the most advanced mobile devices in terms of display quality.

Foldable iPhone to offer an almost imperceptible crease

Leaks also point to a number of other solutions meant to set the device apart from the competition. Apple is reportedly working on a design that would almost completely hide the characteristic screen crease found in most foldable smartphones. This would be possible thanks to the use of ultra-thin protective glass and special flexible layers placed between the display components. A new hinge, partially made from materials previously used in more advanced industrial applications, will also play an important role. According to available information, the hinge will also act as an additional heat-dissipation system. The smartphone is said to be equipped with a vapor chamber for cooling components, an A20 Pro processor, 12 GB of RAM, and Apple’s in-house 5G modem. There are also reports of a dual 48 MP rear camera, a selfie camera with up to 24 MP, and a battery capacity exceeding 5,400 mAh. The device may rely exclusively on eSIM technology and not offer a traditional SIM card slot. The internal screen is said to run at a 4:3 aspect ratio with a resolution of 2713 × 1920 pixels. According to current information, the device is scheduled to launch in fall 2026. Price is expected to start at around $2,000, making it one of the most expensive smartphones in Apple’s history.

New leaks suggest that a folding iPhone Ultra could get an advanced Samsung M16 OLED display, a nearly invisible crease in the screen, and flagship-level specs. If these reports are true, it would be one of Apple’s most ambitious mobile projects in years.
